High-level Dialogue on Energy

The UN Secretary-General is convening the High-level Dialogue on Energy (HLDE) at the summit level during the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2021, in New York. This event was mandated by General Assembly resolution 74/225. It will be the first global gathering on energy under the auspices of the UN General Assembly since the UN Conference on New and Renewable Sources of Energy in 1981,

The High-level Dialogue on Energy seeks to promote the implementation of the energy-related goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and to raise ambition and accelerate action towards the achievement of the SDG 7 energy targets.

Preparations for the Dialogue included five Ministerial Forums, one for each of five themes: Energy Access (21 June), Energy Transitions Forum (23 June), Forum on Enabling SDGs through Inclusive, Just Energy Transitions (24 June), Forum on Innovation, Technology and Data (22 June), and Forum on Finance and Investment (25 June).

Reports on each theme were prepared by Technical Working Groups to feed into the Ministerial Thematic Forums.  The Earth Negotiations Bulletin summary of the deliberations of the Technical Working Groups, which took place between February to May 2021, is here
